BioCanna Products

BIOCANNA fertilizers are 100% organic and especially developed for cultivation in soil. Products grown with BIOCANNA fertilizers can be called organic, provided they are grown biologically and in accordance with international guidelines.

BIOCANNA fertilizers are not only OMRI certified, but also have the exact right preparation method, thus preventing an overdose of nutrients. Overdosing does not only harm the environment but also the plant, which can cause growth problems. It is also possible that a plant receives insufficient nutrients due to an incorrect method of preparation.

Certification

The Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) is a non profit organization that specializes is the review of substances for use in organic production, processing and handling. OMRI’s organization is broadly representative of the Industry segments with members distributed among certifiers, farmers, suplliers, processors, handlers, consumer organizations and animal welfare and environmental groups. Materials review is conducted as a transparent, third-party review of products intended for use in certified organic production, handling and processing. The OMRI-listed® seal assures the suitability of a product for certified organic production, processing and handling.

Growing Organically

Fertilizers from vegetable or animal origin are called organic fertilizers. An advantage of organic fertilizers over synthetic fertilizers is that they bring organic material into the soil, which leads to an improvement of the soil’s structure. This is better for the environment because there is less washing out of minerals and improved water absorption. A healthy soil with immediately-absorbable and bound minerals requires a lot of attention in organic farming and is closely connected to the three principles on which biological farming is based.

Organic fertilizers, however, may still contain animal substances – something that the conscious organic grower prefers to avoid. BIOCANNA nutrients are vegetable-based and do not contain any animal residual product. The main advantage of this is that the product’s composition is much better tuned to the plant’s needs. An additional advantage is that the product cannot contain any animal pathogenic organism, such as influenza viruses (avian flu, for example) that can be harmful to human health.

What is Organic Farming?

The discovery of fertilizer contributed enormously to people’s prosperity. Unfortunately there’s also a downside to modern farming, such as deterioration of soil quality and the environment. This led to discontent which in turn led to two new farming trends in the last century: organic farming and biodynamic farming.

The aim of organic farming is to produce in a sustainable way and in harmony with nature. To realize and maintain this, organic farming is based on three basic principles:

  1. No use of chemical pesticides
  2. No use of chemical fertilizer
  3. Aiming at a wide biodiversity

Through the implementation of these rules, a natural growth environment is created with a good structure and a healthy microflora. These principles are supported in the use of BIOCANNA products. Unfortunately this is often not the case with many so-called organic products. These products are often just partially organic, while BIOCANNA products are100% organic.

History of Farming

Farming started 12,000 years ago, at the end of the last ice age. The increasingly warmer climate enabled people to start growing crops for themselves and to stay at one location for a longer period of time. This made it possible to finally move on from the insecure lifestyle of hunting and collecting, resulting in the first civilizations (Syria, Mexico and China). Obviously people realized that a plant grew better when you mixed fertilizers through the soil, but the reason why was unknown. Back then we did not know anything about nutritional elements.

Through experimental research in 1838 Justus von Liebig showed the relationship between nutritional elements and plant growth. Eventually this has led to the introduction of fertilizers; a true revolution in farming. The use and working of the elements NPK was applied with variable success. Nitrogen (N) was obtained from coal tar. Phosphorus (P) could be obtained from bones. Potassium (K) was found as raw material in the mines of Chile and India.

Nowadays everyone knows N, P and K are the basic elements for applying fertilization in farming.

Production Process

BIOCANNA fertilizers are produced in accordance with a complex process. An important step in this process is fermentation. Fermentation is the breaking down of complex substances by means of micro-organisms. Among other things, fermentation is used in the production of wine and beer.

After long research into special micro-organisms and vegetable raw produce, CannaResearch has succeeded in developing a 100% controlled fermentation process. This makes it possible to obtain a consistent product with exactly the right mineral composition and organic ingredients. The substances in BIOCANNA products are immediately absorbable, and stimulate the plant’s metabolism and resistance. In addition, they improve the soil quality and the biodiversity. Thanks to the unique fermentation process BIOCANNA products are rich in bioactive substances, such as fruit acids and oligosaccharines.

BIOCANNA makes liquid biological fertilizers a reality.

Bio Vega

Bio Vega has been specially developed for the plants’ growth phase. Bio Vega is rich in highly absorbable betaine nitrogen that is released according to the plant’s needs. The bioactive substances in Bio Vega stimulate the root development and the formation of strong growth shoots. This allows plants to optimally start their blooming period.

Bio Flores

Bio Flores was developed for the blooming phase of plants. Due to the fact that Bio Flores contains a hops extract it provides many of the necessary minerals in the correct proportions. In addition to these minerals, hops extract also contains substances such as lupuline , luparol, lupulon and humulon, which provide the plant with extra blooming power.

BioRHIZOTONIC

BioRHIZOTONIC is a 100% organically certified root stimulator (OMRI). BioRHIZOTONIC contains a range of vitamins, including vitamins B1 and B2. It stimulates the development of root (hairs), root tips and increases the plant’s resistance. A powerful root system ensures that the plant can absorb more nutrients and grows faster.

BioBOOST

BioBOOST is not a nutrient but a natural fermented plant extract with bloom stimulating characteristics that are also responsible for a fuller flavour. BioBOOST is suitable for all cultivation systems and can be applied in combination with BIOCANNA fertilizers and additives.

BioBOOST was developed by CannaResearch from plant extracts from tropical rainforests and is a true boost for plants. The bioactive substances result in an extra metabolism that is exactly what the plant needs during the blooming period. The plants produce more fructose, become healthier and stronger and are less vulnerable to diseases and plagues. The result is a higher yield with a strong, exuberant and vital fructification. The number of bio-active substances in BIOBOOST is enormous.

BioRHIZOTONIC has a noticeably vitalizing effect on plants. Thanks to BioRHIZOTONIC plants extend their roots throughout the subsoil more quickly. This is why BioRHIZOTONIC is, among other things, an ideal remedy for stressed plants such as cuttings during re-potting. BioRHIZOTONIC also restores and strengthens plants that are unhealthy or look poorly.

Bio Terra Plus

BIOCANNA’s Bio Terra Plus is made up of 100% natural materials and as such can also be used for organic cultivation. It is composed of different grades of peat, bark and coco coir, the use of perlite is no longer necessary to obtain an oxygen-rich, well drained potting mixture. Bio Terra Plus is specially designed and formulated for use with BIOCANNA nutrients. Bio Terra Plus is pH balanced and provides the optimum base for achieving professional results. With Bio Terra Plus the EC and pH value’s do not need to be measured. Organic mediums and nutrients are not made of mineral salts but organically bound elements, which are not measurable. The medium has a natural pH which will keep the soil in balance by itself.

Grow Schedule

The guidelines in the table aren‘t an iron law, but can help novice growers to develop a sophisticated fertilization strategy. The optimum fertilization strategy is further determined by factors such as: temperature, humidity, plant species, root volume, moisture percentage in substrate, water dosage strategy, etc.

Canna growschedule_text_1

  • This period varies depending on the species and number of plants per m2. Mother plants remain in this phase until the end (6 – 12 months).
  • The changeover from 18 to 12 hours varies depending on the variety. The rule of thumb is to change after 2 weeks.
  • Reduce hours of light if ripening goes too fast. Watch out for increasing Relative Humidity
  • Double CANNAZYM dosage to 19 ml/gallon, if substrate is reused.

pH: The pH doesn’t generally need to be corrected Hard water (pH > 7.5) is an exception to this. It is recommended that the pH should then be corrected to 6.0 – 6.5. pH correction using Organic Acid. (or pH min grow)
